Funds/Private Equity Team Lead for ClearyX

ClearyX is a separate business unit within Cleary Gottlieb, a preeminent global law firm with 16 offices on four continents. We are looking for a team member who can lead the design and build of legal solutions for our Funds and Private Equity clients.

Helpful experience in addition to the substantive work includes working with document/process automation tools, alternative staffing models, project management, and process improvement. You will be in a leadership role, and will oversee analysts and other team members to build and manage solutions. We require excellent communication skills; an ability to exercise judgment and juggle multiple/competing priorities; good problem solving skills; and the ability to apply a process-orientated approach to our work. 

ClearyX is looking for someone with at least 3-5 years’ experience with private equity/funds and potentially financial services legal work (preferable in a corporate legal department or a law firm environment) who will be the subject matter expert for our team. To qualify for this position you must be called to the bar and be based in Canada, the UK or the U.S. This role is a permanent, full time, fully remote position. There may be limited travel requirements for business or client purposes, and we aim to bring the entire team together in person once a year. Responsibilities

  • Supporting and leading the creation of new models of legal services, deploying technology and alternative resources where appropriate. This will involve some process improvement and project management;
  • Identifying areas to improve how our services are delivered, and seeking out opportunities to build practical solutions that solve problems for our clients including through consultative discussions with clients and prospective clients in the funds/private equity space, for example:
    • Supporting and improving diligence projects for fund-related transactions (such as side letters and LPAs);
    • Finding opportunities to automate fund formation, transfer and maintenance documents;
    • Building solutions for the review and benchmarking of practice specific documents such as: fund documents for LPs and GPs (e.g. LPAs, Side Letters) and other FinServ documents (e.g. ISDAs);
    • Support our clients’ Fund Book Transactions through document review and purchase agreement negotiation.
    • Supervising analysts, technologists and others designing and building our solutions;
    • Providing subject matter expertise and conducting quality control funds-related work (including designing processes for efficient quality control and process management);
    • Helping to plan for and hire any staff required to deliver and maintain relevant products and services;
      Helping to build models for pricing and other data analytics tools for our work and our clients.

Cleary-Backed 10BE5 Gets Undisclosed Pre-Seed Extension

A legal technology startup founded by two lawyers from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP raised an undisclosed investment on Tuesday. 10BE5 Ltd., a legal tech company that automates capital markets-related workstreams, told Law360 Pulse that its new investment from Killer Whale Strategies, a consultancy that invests in legal tech companies at any stage of development, can be characterized as a “pre-seed extension.” Along with undisclosed pre-seed funding in February 2021 from Cleary, 10BE5 has raised under $1 million to date, according to John Kwan, co-founder of 10BE5.
