As a legal analyst in the transactional team at ClearyX, McLean implements legal technology and streamlined processes to transform traditional M&A contract review processes, delivering faster turnaround times and enhanced accuracy for clients across multiple industries.

McLean began his career as a litigator at a major Canadian law firm, working primarily in the area of class action defence. With extensive experience both in private practice and in-house at a large corporation, McLean brings a unique perspective to the transactional process as part of the ClearyX team. He has seen how a commitment to innovation can streamline the legal process and deliver measurable benefits to clients.

McLean holds a JD from Western University and a certificate in intensive trial advocacy from Osgoode Hall Law School. As a litigator, McLean has appeared before judges and masters at all levels of Ontario courts, and has acted on behalf of commercial clients in a wide range of areas, including:

  • Defending an international auditing firm in a multi-billion dollar class action for negligent misrepresentation and breach of fiduciary duty
  • Representing a multinational grocery retailer in a multi-million dollar class action for breach of franchising agreement
  • Representing an auditing client in respect of concurrent regulatory investigations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission and the Ontario Securities Commission
  • Following his time as a litigator, McLean held the position of Senior Director and Legal Counsel for a major multinational grocery retailer. With the primary responsibility for overseeing the corporation’s litigation portfolio and the internal risk management team, McLean regularly advised the Loss Prevention, Human Resources, Quality Assurance, Customer Relations and Audit teams on matters of reputational significance to the corporation. In addition, McLean oversaw numerous internal investigations in response to Competition Bureau inquiries and allegations of fraud, and regularly appeared in court on behalf of the corporation.

McLean lives in Toronto, Ontario with his three kids and never turns down a day on the ski slopes.
